PlayStation3(以下PS3)の本体に内蔵されている基本システム、PCではOSに当たる。
ゲームの安定動作やドライバ制御、処理落ちの低減といった連綿たる改良が継続され、現在のバージョンとなった。

**クロスメディアバーの基本操作 [#v0e4fd61]
PS3のシステムソフトウェアは、04年～09年当時のSONYにより推進されていたユーザーインターフェイス『クロスメディアバー(以下XMBと略記)」により構造されている。

基本的な操作と仕様は以下の通りとなる。
+カーソル移動音、決定音、キャンセル音あり
+カーソル移動は上下左右とも、端で突き当たる。
+方向キー左右により大項目を選択
+方向キー上下により大項目に含まれる子項目を選択 ((大項目を選んだ時点で既に小項目を選べる状態となっていることから手数を少なく目的の操作が行えることが特徴))
+目的の子項目で丸ボタンを押すことで選択中項目が実行される。サブメニューが存在する場合はそちらが表示され、更に方向キー上下で選択することとなる。
+目的の子項目で三角ボタンを押すことで選択中項目に対するアクションを選ぶメニューが表示される。アプリケーションの削除などはここより行う。
+環境設定などでチェックボックスのOn/Offを切り替える場合、効果音により判別可能
+「はい・いいえ」を選ぶダイアログボックスにあっては、左が「はい」となる。
**XMB(クロスメディアバー)の操作 [#v0e4fd61]
PS3のシステムソフトウェアは、04年～09年当時のSONYが推進していたクロスメディアバーというインターフェイスを用いて構造されている。
方向キーの左右により大項目を選び、その子項目を上下で選ぶ仕組みであって、
大項目を選んだ時点で既に小項目を選べる状態となっていることから手数を少なく目的の操作が行えることが特徴であった。
カーソル移動音あり、カーソルが端で突き当たる仕様である。
